Abortion is the top issue for 1 in 8 voters in the US ahead of this year's elections, KFF survey finds
About half of registered voters in the United States believe that this year’s elections will have a significant impact on access to abortion. Approximately 1 in 8 voters say that abortion is the most important issue driving their vote. This is especially true for Black women, with over a quarter of voters in this group prioritizing it as the most important issue ahead of the 2024 elections. Other groups where abortion is a driving issue include Democratic women, women in states with abortion bans, and women of reproductive age. The majority of voters who view abortion as the most important issue believe that it should be legal in all or most cases. Fewer than half said they would vote for President Joe Biden if the election were held today, while roughly 1 in 4 would back former President Donald Trump.
